While one of the rules of the #PYPGrad Facebook Goup is, "What happens in this group, stays in this group," I feel comfortable sharing a defining moment with the references to the artists and the clients involved deleted from the thread.
What follows is a moment in time that can change the DNA of both the specific person and the group who is being impacted by one persons boldness and bravery. Not everything I teach in those 3 days is so easily swallowed. And in fact, I often see on the faces of my students the unspoken words, "Is she crazy, that is never going to happen!"
And so, I encourage, push, cajole, kick, scream and offer as much 'old-school' tough love as necessary, until' they try it my way and EVERYONE wins who witnesses the power of just one person stepping out of their comfort zone and taking a chance to try something new.
The December [8-10] class in Los Angeles is but 19 days old, and I can already see the impact of motivation, accountability and the PYP community on the DNA of its newest members––forever changed by one person's decision to step out of their comfort zone, throw caution to the wind and 'just try it'.
New PYP Grad Post: SO
I will be styling for xxXxxxXxx.com on Monday
for their lookbook and when I
was talking to the guy (client), he asked me the question,
"What is your rate?"
and I kind of froze.
But Crystal's voice was telling me, "Better to aim
high then to aim low and miss it,
"so I aimed high and I sure as heck did
not miss it! LOL! Yayy!! PYP!!!!
Never
underestimate or undervalue the power of surrounding yourself with
whatever or whomever keeps you motivated and moving forward in your
career. There is rarely a price too high to pay for that which propels
you to greater heights.
Four things you can implement into your life at the beginning of 2013:
- Do not keep in your circle or take to heart the venom of people who seem only to ask, "Well how did you do that?" before they say, "Congratulations."
- Do not fill your mind with the skepticism of those who offer all the advice in the world about things they have never done.
- Separate yourself from those whose negative words seep into your consciousness and start coming out of your mouth as if they were your own.
- Begin the process of recoding your DNA by stretching beyond your comfort zone until newly developed traits forged out of building the muscle of new habits begins to have a positive life changing affect on you and those around you.
As you venture into 2013, I encourage you to find comrades and friends
who praise your accomplishments with genuine enthusiasm and offer positive
constructive solution oriented suggestions that help you reach even
higher ground.
2013 is a new beginning. Make it your own, and do it your way.
Sincerely,
Crystal A. Wright
